Type
MRI Scan
Duration
40 min
A focused MRI of the brain, often arranged through Altoa for clients investigated within its neurology pathway, where an MRI is performed if the neurologist's examination indicates one. Brain MRI gives high-contrast images of brain tissue, ventricles and vessels without radiation, and is the standard imaging for headache, neurological symptoms and follow-up of known findings. Altoa books and escorts you to an accredited partner facility and returns a radiologist's report.
Brain MRI produces detailed images of the cerebral cortex, white matter, ventricles, brainstem, cerebellum and intracranial vessels using a strong magnetic field and radio-frequency pulses — no X-rays — which is why it is the preferred modality for assessing the central nervous system. It is commonly requested for persistent or atypical headache, dizziness, neurological symptoms, suspected demyelination or vascular change, and to follow up previously identified findings. Within Altoa's care model this scan is frequently the imaging step of its neurology program, in which a neurologist first takes a history and performs a structured examination (reflexes, motor and sensory testing, gait) and orders MRI when clinically indicated; it is equally available through the express pathway for clients with a referral (from 2 100 Kč) or without one (4 500 Kč, with a bundled specialist consultation). Once indicated, an Altoa coordinator books the study at a partner facility — Nemocnice Hořovice (AKESO), Rehabilitační nemocnice Beroun or Multiscan Pardubice — and escorts you on the day. The examination usually takes 20–40 minutes; you remove all metal, lie still on the motorised table with your head supported in a coil, and wear provided ear protection. If vascular detail or a lesion is in question, intravenous gadolinium contrast may be added. The partner radiologist interprets the images and issues a written report, which the neurologist can review with you in a follow-up. Preparation: bring your referral and any prior brain imaging; disclose pacemakers, cochlear implants, metal fragments, claustrophobia or pregnancy. Brain MRI findings should always be interpreted alongside the clinical picture by the reviewing physician.
