Abdominal MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

45 min

An MRI of the abdomen that images the liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, biliary tree and surrounding soft tissue in detail without radiation. Altoa arranges this through its imaging pathway as a complement to abdominal ultrasound when finer soft-tissue characterisation is needed, booking and escorting you to an accredited partner facility. A radiologist interprets the study and issues a written report, which the coordinating physician can review with you.

Abdominal MRI provides high-contrast, radiation-free imaging of the liver, gallbladder and biliary system, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands, spleen and surrounding structures, using magnetic resonance to characterise lesions and tissue that ultrasound or CT may leave uncertain. It is commonly requested to clarify liver or pancreatic findings, assess the bile ducts (MRCP), evaluate kidney masses, and follow up abnormalities seen on other imaging. In Altoa's preventive and oncology programs, abdominal ultrasound is the first-line organ survey; abdominal MRI is arranged when a finding needs deeper soft-tissue characterisation, and is also bookable through the express pathway with a referral (from 2 100 Kč) or without (4 500 Kč, with a specialist consult to set the protocol and decide whether intravenous contrast is needed). The coordinator books the scan at a partner facility — Nemocnice Hořovice (AKESO), Rehabilitační nemocnice Beroun or Multiscan Pardubice — and escorts you on the day. The examination typically takes 30–45 minutes; you may be asked to fast beforehand if contrast or biliary imaging is planned, you remove all metal, lie still on the motorised table, and follow breath-hold instructions during some sequences to reduce motion. The partner radiologist interprets the images and issues a written report. Preparation: bring your referral, prior abdominal imaging and any relevant blood results; disclose pacemakers, implants, metal fragments, claustrophobia, pregnancy or kidney impairment (relevant if contrast is used). Findings should be interpreted alongside the clinical picture by the reviewing physician.
