CT Abdomen

Type

CT Scan

Duration

25 min

CT of the full abdomen — liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenals, and bowel — at €97. Multi-phase contrast protocols available for liver lesion characterisation and oncology staging. Written radiologist report and CD images included.

Alpha Medical's abdominal CT at €97 provides comprehensive cross-sectional imaging of all upper abdominal organs and structures — liver, gallbladder and biliary system, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands, bowel loops, mesentery, retroperitoneum, and major abdominal vessels. The multi-slice CT generates axial, coronal, and sagittal reconstructions that allow systematic evaluation of each organ alongside assessment of the peritoneum and abdominal wall. Oral contrast to distend bowel and intravenous contrast to enhance vascular and solid-organ structures are both available where clinically indicated. Multi-phase contrast protocols — arterial, portal venous, and delayed phases — substantially improve detection and characterisation of focal liver lesions, pancreatic neoplasms, renal cell carcinoma, adrenal masses, and lymphoma. For patients with renal impairment, pre-hydration protocols or non-contrast alternatives can be arranged at the time of referral review. Abdominal CT is an essential tool for the investigation of acute abdominal pain (both emergency and sub-acute presentations), jaundice workup (biliary obstruction, intrahepatic vs extrahepatic cause), haematuria investigation, and the staging of gastrointestinal, pancreatic, renal, and retroperitoneal malignancies. In oncology follow-up, abdominal CT provides quantitative assessment of tumour response to chemotherapy or targeted therapy using standardised criteria (RECIST 1.1), allowing direct comparison of serial examinations. For the small intestine specifically, CT enterography (CT enterografia) uses neutral oral contrast to distend the small bowel, enabling high-resolution evaluation of the small intestinal wall and mucosa — the preferred technique for Crohn's disease activity assessment and surveillance. Patients are asked to fast for at least six hours before standard abdominal CT; for enterography protocols, specific oral preparation is provided at the time of booking. All abdominal CT examinations at Alpha Medical are reported by radiologists with abdominal imaging experience. Written reports are delivered within working days; urgent findings — including incidental findings of clinical significance — are communicated directly to the referring physician by telephone. CD image copies are provided for the patient, and images can be shared digitally with other treating clinicians on request.
