Ear Reshaping (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty, or ear pinning, corrects ears that protrude noticeably from the head or have an underdeveloped fold, which can be a source of self-consciousness from childhood onward. Through an incision concealed in the crease behind the ear, the surgeon reshapes and, where necessary, removes a small amount of cartilage, then uses permanent sutures to recreate the natural antihelical fold and set the ear at a more typical angle and distance from the head. Because the incision is behind the ear, any scar is hidden from view. A supportive head dressing is worn for the first days to protect the new shape, followed by a soft headband at night for a few weeks.
