The scan itself takes under a minute. You stand on the device barefoot and hold the hand electrodes while it sends small, imperceptible electrical currents through your body at multiple frequencies. Different tissue types conduct electricity differently — muscle (which contains a lot of water) conducts well, while fat does not — and the device uses these differences to calculate a detailed composition profile. The printout covers more than 40 parameters including total skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat area, segmental lean analysis (individual limb and trunk measurements), basal metabolic rate, and total body water distribution.
