Because only hairs in the active growth phase (anagen) are effectively targeted, a course of multiple sessions — typically 4–6 for most body areas — is required to progressively treat all follicles as they cycle through the growth phase. Preparation required
Shave the treatment area 24–48 hours before each session. Do not wax, thread, or epilate between sessions — the hair root must be intact for IPL to work. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for 4 weeks before each treatment. Remove topical retinoids and photosensitising medications — discuss with the treating physician.
