Pelvis MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

35 min

MRI of the pelvic region assessing the bladder, reproductive organs, pelvic floor muscles, sacroiliac joints, and surrounding structures. Used for investigating pelvic pain, urological and gynaecological concerns, and sacroiliac pathology.

Pelvic MRI at AGEL Praha provides detailed imaging of the pelvic organs and musculoskeletal structures using the Siemens MAGNETOM Sola 1.5T scanner. The examination covers the urinary bladder, prostate (in men) or uterus and ovaries (in women), rectum, pelvic floor musculature, pelvic lymph nodes, hip joint soft tissues, and the sacroiliac joints. MRI is the preferred modality for pelvic soft-tissue assessment because of its exceptional contrast resolution. In men, pelvic MRI can evaluate prostate morphology and detect suspicious lesions that may warrant targeted biopsy. In women, it is valuable for characterising uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and masses, endometriosis (including deep infiltrating endometriosis that ultrasound may miss), and adenomyosis. The sacroiliac joints are included in the field of view, allowing detection of sacroiliitis -- an early marker of ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies. Bone marrow oedema at the sacroiliac joints on MRI can be present years before structural changes appear on plain radiographs, making this a sensitive screening tool for inflammatory back pain in younger patients. Bladder assessment includes wall morphology and detection of intraluminal or mural masses. The pelvic floor muscles and fascial planes are also visualised, which is relevant for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction or pre-surgical planning. The 35-minute scan is performed supine with a body coil. No bowel preparation is required for standard pelvic MRI, though patients may be asked to maintain a moderately full bladder to optimise imaging contrast between the bladder wall and its contents. At 10,000 CZK (approximately EUR 410), the scan is competitively priced compared to Western European alternatives. AGEL Praha's English-speaking patient assistant can coordinate with the referring physician to ensure the scan protocol addresses the specific clinical question.
