MRI of the abdominal cavity covering the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, adrenal glands, and major abdominal vessels. Provides superior soft-tissue contrast for characterising organ pathology without ionising radiation.
Abdominal MRI at AGEL Praha provides comprehensive imaging of the solid abdominal organs and surrounding structures using the Siemens MAGNETOM Sola 1.5T scanner. The examination covers the liver (including assessment of parenchymal signal, focal lesions, and biliary anatomy), kidneys (cortical and medullary differentiation, cysts, masses), spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, adrenal glands, and the major abdominal vessels including the aorta and its branches. MRI offers superior soft-tissue contrast compared to CT for characterising liver lesions -- distinguishing benign haemangiomas and focal nodular hyperplasia from potentially malignant lesions without the need for ionising radiation. For kidney imaging, MRI can differentiate simple cysts (which are nearly universal with age) from complex cysts or solid masses that warrant further investigation. Pancreatic imaging benefits from MRI's ability to visualise the pancreatic duct and detect subtle parenchymal changes. The scan is particularly valuable for preventive screening in individuals with risk factors for abdominal pathology, including family history of liver, kidney, or pancreatic disease, heavy alcohol use (liver assessment), and hypertension (adrenal and renal assessment). It also serves as a follow-up modality for lesions initially detected on ultrasound that require further characterisation. The examination takes approximately 35 minutes. Breath-hold sequences are used to minimise respiratory motion artefact. The 70cm wide bore provides comfort during the scan, and the patient lies supine with a body coil positioned over the abdomen. At 10,000 CZK (approximately EUR 410), abdominal MRI at AGEL Praha is priced well below Western European equivalents. The central Prague location in Vinohrady is easily reached from major transport hubs, making it practical for day-trip medical tourism from Germany, Austria, or Poland.
