MRI of the pelvic cavity including bladder, uterus/ovaries or prostate/seminal vesicles, rectum, and pelvic lymph nodes. Key investigation for gynaecological, urological, and oncological indications.
The pelvic MRI provides detailed cross-sectional imaging of the organs and structures within the minor pelvis. In female patients the examination evaluates the uterus, endometrium, myometrium, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and parametrial tissues. In male patients the focus includes the prostate, seminal vesicles, and prostatic urethra. Both sexes receive assessment of the bladder wall, rectum, pelvic sidewall musculature, and inguinal and pelvic lymph node stations. The study is commonly requested for investigation of pelvic pain, endometriosis staging, fibroid mapping before surgery, ovarian mass characterisation, prostate cancer detection, rectal cancer staging, and bladder tumour evaluation. MRI's multiplanar capability and soft-tissue contrast are essential for pelvic oncological staging, where the relationship of tumour to fascial planes determines operability. Contrast enhancement with gadolinium improves characterisation of masses and is recommended when malignancy is suspected — the contrast agent is billed separately at 2,500 CZK. The department receives referrals from gynaecology, urology, oncology, and gastroenterology.
