Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
MRI of a single knee joint assessing menisci, cruciate and collateral ligaments, articular cartilage, and subchondral bone. No contrast and no referral required.
The knee MRI at Affidea Gdańsk follows a dedicated joint protocol covering sagittal, coronal, and axial planes with proton-density, T2-weighted, and fat-saturated sequences optimised for internal derangement. The radiologist systematically evaluates both menisci for tears and degeneration, the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments for integrity, the medial and lateral collateral ligaments, and articular cartilage on all three compartments. Bone marrow signal is assessed for contusions, occult fractures, and stress reactions. The patellofemoral compartment is reviewed for tracking abnormalities, chondral defects, and plica. Extensor mechanism integrity including the patellar and quadriceps tendons is documented. This examination is frequently performed after sports injuries, for chronic knee pain without a definitive clinical diagnosis, as a pre-operative assessment before arthroscopy, and for monitoring cartilage defects over time. The scan takes approximately 25-30 minutes, and no contrast injection is required for standard knee imaging.
