Type

Laser Therapy (HILT)

Duration

30 min

Laser treatment to improve the appearance of scars — including acne scarring and surgical or injury scars — by resurfacing the area and stimulating the skin to remodel over time. At AESTETICA the physician assesses each scar and tailors the approach, which can soften texture, flatten raised areas and blend colour for a less noticeable result. Scars respond gradually, so a course of sessions usually gives the best improvement.

Laser scar correction directs controlled light energy at scar tissue to break down and reorganise it while prompting the surrounding skin to produce fresh collagen. Over a series of treatments this can soften the texture of a scar, reduce how raised or indented it is, and help its colour blend more closely with the surrounding skin. The technique is used for acne scarring as well as scars left by surgery or injury, and the physician adapts the settings to the type, age and location of the scar. At AESTETICA the area is cleansed and, where appropriate, numbed before treatment, which is usually short and focused on the scarred region. Afterwards the skin may be red, warm or lightly swollen for a few days as it recovers, and diligent moisturising and sun protection are important while it heals. Because scar remodelling is a gradual biological process, several sessions spaced a few weeks apart are typically needed, with improvement continuing between treatments. Realistic expectations matter: laser treatment can make many scars considerably less noticeable but does not always remove them completely. It is best suited to adults troubled by the texture or appearance of acne, surgical or traumatic scars. Suitability — including the scar's maturity and your skin type — and any contraindications are assessed by the physician at consultation, and treatment is avoided over active infection and in pregnancy.
