Laser Pigmentation Removal

Type

Pigmentation

Duration

30 min

Laser treatment to fade unwanted pigmentation such as sun spots, age spots and other benign discolouration, evening out skin tone. At AESTETICA the physician assesses the pigmentation first to confirm it is suitable for laser treatment, then targets the excess pigment so the body can clear it over the following days. Several sessions are often needed for even, lasting results, with sun protection essential between treatments.

Laser pigmentation removal uses light energy tuned to be absorbed by the excess melanin responsible for sun spots, age spots and similar benign discolouration. The energy breaks the pigment into smaller particles that the skin's natural processes gradually clear, leaving a more even tone. The physician first examines the pigmented areas to confirm they are harmless and appropriate for laser treatment — an important step, since any lesion with suspicious features is referred for dermatological assessment rather than treated cosmetically. At AESTETICA the treatment is usually brief and focused on the marked areas. Treated spots commonly darken initially and then flake or fade over one to two weeks, and mild redness around them is normal. Diligent sun protection before and after treatment is essential, both to protect the healing skin and to reduce the chance of pigment returning. Because pigmentation often sits at different depths and responds gradually, a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart frequently gives the most even and lasting clearance. The treatment is well suited to adults bothered by sun-related or age-related surface pigmentation on the face, hands or other exposed areas. It is not appropriate for pigment that is part of a mole or other lesion needing medical evaluation, and is avoided over recently tanned skin and in pregnancy; suitability and skin type are assessed at consultation.
