Treatment to save a tooth whose inner pulp has become inflamed or infected, often the cause of severe toothache. The dentist removes the diseased tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and shapes the canals and seals them, allowing you to keep a tooth that might otherwise need extraction. Pricing is per canal, so front teeth with a single canal cost less than multi-rooted molars. A crown is often recommended afterwards to protect the restored tooth.

About this treatment

Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) addresses the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp — when it becomes inflamed or infected through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause persistent pain, abscess and eventual loss of the tooth. The aim of treatment is to remove the damaged pulp, disinfect the hollow canal system inside the roots, and seal it so the tooth can stay in function rather than being extracted.

At Adent the tooth is numbed so the procedure is comfortable, and the dentist works through the crown of the tooth to clean and shape each canal, then fills the space with a sealing material. Because molars have several canals while front teeth usually have one, the fee is quoted per canal and the total depends on the tooth being treated; a temporary filling may be placed between stages where treatment spans more than one visit.
