Lyme Disease - Western Blot
Blood test to detect Lyme disease antibodies.
Blood test to detect Lyme disease antibodies.
Additional Information
The Lyme Western Blot is a qualitative immunoassay that visualizes antibodies specific to Borrelia burgdorferi antigens. It's more sensitive and specific than ELISA and IFA tests. IgM antibodies may indicate a recent infection (disappearing after eight weeks), while IgG antibodies suggest a past infection (persisting longer). The test helps determine if someone has been infected with Lyme disease, considering that IgM antibodies may also be present in individuals without the disease. Results are crucial for diagnosis and treatment.
