Type
MRI Scan
Duration
45 min
A contrast-enhanced 3 Tesla MRI of the breasts, also known as MR mammography, using a gadolinium agent to image breast tissue in detail. It is used alongside mammography and ultrasound in selected situations, such as further assessment of a finding, evaluation of implants, or screening in higher-risk individuals. Breast MRI is performed lying face down in a dedicated coil. The examination is read by a specialist radiologist, with a written report emailed within 72 hours.
Breast MRI, sometimes called MR mammography, is a contrast-enhanced examination that images both breasts in fine detail using a gadolinium-based contrast agent. It does not replace mammography or ultrasound but is used to complement them in specific situations where additional information is helpful. At Ultra MR the scan is performed on a Siemens MAGNETOM 3 Tesla system using a dedicated breast coil, and it is interpreted by a specialist in radiology and imaging diagnostics. The examination may be requested for further assessment of a finding seen on other breast imaging, for evaluation of breast implants, for monitoring in people identified as being at higher risk, and in other selected circumstances. For the scan you lie face down on a special table with the breasts positioned within the coil; a cannula is placed in a vein so contrast can be given during the study. Staying still throughout is important for image quality, and the appointment generally lasts around forty to forty-five minutes. Because contrast timing matters for breast MRI, the examination is scheduled thoughtfully, and for people who menstruate it is often best performed at a particular point in the cycle — staff will discuss timing and any preparation when you book. Let the team know in advance about kidney problems, previous contrast reactions, asthma or the possibility of pregnancy. This examination is offered as an in-clinic study rather than through online self-booking, and the price already includes the contrast agent. The radiologist's written report is emailed within 72 hours, with express CITO and Ukrainian-language reporting available as paid options.
