Assesses heart health markers including cholesterol and cardiac risk factors.
A homocysteine blood test measures the level of this amino acid in your blood. Homocysteine is a byproduct of protein metabolism that is normally converted into other useful substances with the help of vitamins B6, B12, and folate. When these vitamins are deficient or when genetic variants like MTHFR impair the conversion process, homocysteine can accumulate to harmful levels. Elevated homocysteine (hyperhomocysteinemia) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke, blood clots, and cognitive decline. It is increasingly recognized in longevity medicine as a modifiable risk factor — levels can often be lowered through B-vitamin supplementation and dietary changes.
