The treatment begins with a detailed consultation about the client's goals — whether the priority is increased volume, improved definition of the cupid's bow, better lip border projection, correction of asymmetry, or addressing downturned mouth corners. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 15–20 minutes before the injections, and most modern lip fillers also contain lidocaine to further minimise discomfort during administration. The injection technique varies based on the goal: cannula or needle injection into the body of the lip increases volume; border (vermillion) injection with a fine needle defines and projects the lip line; philtrum column injections lift the centre of the upper lip. An experienced injector assesses the patient's natural lip shape, facial proportions, and tooth show before planning the distribution of filler — the result should look like an enhanced version of the patient's own lips, not a standardised template. Post-treatment swelling peaks in the first 24–48 hours, which means the initial result will appear more pronounced than the final outcome. Final results are typically assessed at 2 weeks, when swelling has fully resolved.
