The Urology Check-up at AstraMED is a focused screening designed for men who want a thorough urological assessment without the full multi-specialist general check-up. The programme combines a urologist consultation with the key diagnostic tools for evaluating prostate and urinary tract health: transabdominal prostate ultrasound, PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test, and urine culture. The prostate ultrasound evaluates gland size, shape, and internal structure, identifying benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), calcifications, or focal lesions that may warrant further investigation. Prostate enlargement is extremely common — affecting roughly 50% of men by age 60 and up to 90% by age 85 — and can cause urinary frequency, urgency, weak stream, and nocturia. Early identification allows management before symptoms significantly impact quality of life. PSA testing provides a blood-based marker for prostate health. While PSA alone is not diagnostic for cancer, it establishes a baseline value that is essential for monitoring changes over time. The urologist interprets the PSA result in the context of age, prostate size, and clinical findings — an integrated assessment that is far more informative than a standalone PSA number. Urine culture screens for urinary tract infections and bacterial colonisation, which can mimic or exacerbate prostate-related symptoms.
