Targeted laser treatment for facial pigmentation — including sun spots, age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — using selective photothermolysis to break down excess melanin deposits without damaging surrounding skin.
Pigmentation disorders are among the most common skin concerns presented to aesthetic clinics, and laser-based correction remains the gold standard for targeted, durable reduction of discrete melanin deposits. At Aesthetic Club Berlin, the laser pigmentation protocol employs selective photothermolysis — the principle by which specific laser wavelengths are absorbed preferentially by a target chromophore (in this case, melanin) while leaving surrounding structures intact. Melanin absorbs light most efficiently in the 532 nm (green) and 1064 nm (near-infrared) wavelength ranges. Lasers targeting these wavelengths — including Q-switched Nd:YAG and KTP systems — deliver energy in nanosecond or picosecond pulses short enough to create a photoacoustic shockwave that shatters melanin granules into fragments small enough for macrophage clearance via the lymphatic system, without generating the thermal spread that would damage surrounding keratinocytes and dermal tissue. The treatment is effective for discrete pigmentation lesions including solar lentigines (sun spots and age spots), seborrheic keratosis at earlier stages, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) following acne or eczema, and café-au-lait spots. Melasma, while responsive to laser in some cases, requires careful parameter selection and pre-treatment priming with topical agents because the condition involves both epidermal and dermal melanin and has a tendency to rebound without sun protection and maintenance. At Aesthetic Club Berlin, the pigmentation laser session takes approximately 30 minutes. Patients feel a snapping or stinging sensation during treatment. Treated lesions typically darken transiently over 5 to 7 days before sloughing off — a process known as "bronzing" — revealing lighter skin beneath. Sun protection with SPF 50+ is mandatory after treatment to prevent stimulation of residual melanocytes. One to three sessions may be needed depending on lesion depth and type.
