High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-surgical skin tightening technology that has become one of the most clinically validated alternatives to surgical facelift procedures. At Aesthetic Club Berlin, the HIFU face protocol treats the full face — including the forehead, periorbital region, cheeks, jowl area, and jawline — using focused ultrasound energy to create precise zones of thermal coagulation in the deep dermis and superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). The SMAS is the same fibromuscular layer targeted by surgeons during a rhytidectomy (facelift). By delivering focused ultrasound energy to this depth — typically 4.5 mm below the skin surface — without affecting the overlying tissue, HIFU achieves a lifting stimulus that is anatomically comparable to surgical intervention, without incisions or downtime. The thermal coagulation points trigger an immediate contraction of the SMAS tissue and initiate a wound-healing response that drives collagen synthesis and neo-collagenesis over the subsequent two to three months. The treatment also targets the deep dermis at 3.0 mm depth, where the collagen network that provides dermal support and skin firmness is located. Heating this layer to the therapeutic threshold of 60-70°C denatures existing collagen fibres, stimulating remodelling and the production of new type I and type III collagen. A further 1.5 mm transducer addresses the superficial dermis for texture refinement. The HIFU face session at Aesthetic Club Berlin takes approximately 60 minutes. Patients experience a warm, prickling sensation during energy delivery, which varies in intensity depending on tissue thickness. No anaesthesia is required for most patients, though topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand. Results develop progressively over 8 to 12 weeks as collagen remodelling proceeds, with optimal lifting and tightening visible at three months. Effects typically persist for 12 to 18 months.
