Evaluate your blood for phosphatidylethanol (PEth), a long-term specific biomarker of alcohol consumption.
Evaluate your blood for phosphatidylethanol (PEth), a long-term specific biomarker of alcohol consumption.
Additional Information
This PEth test checks your blood for consumption of alcohol. Drug testing detects the presence of specific drugs and/or drug metabolites in a blood sample to determine drug exposure. A phosphatidylethanol test, also known as a PEth alcohol test, measures the level of an alcohol biomarker (PEth) found in the blood after alcohol consumption. This PEth blood test specifically looks for ethyl alcohol (ethanol). A positive PEth result is a more specific indicator of alcohol consumption than other alcohol biomarkers (eg, ethyl glucuronide [EtG]/ethyl sulfate [EtS]) that may be formed from incidental exposure to sources containing alcohol (eg, hand sanitizers). Higher alcohol consumption leads to higher PEth levels in the blood. PEth testing can also be performed on patients who may have difficulty providing a urine specimen.
